Charlotte Observer's Blunder-o-Fun

This is an actual ad from the Charlotte Observer back in the late '80's. From what I gather some employees (teenagers) were playing around substituding words in several ads as a joke, intending to remove them before print time. They forgot one.

This was printed (I almost wrote "This came out") in the Charlotte Observer back when Doug and I were in college. Come to think of it, Jim was in college then too. In fact, lots of people were.

Anyway, it turns out to have been a prank instigated by some goofball at the sports supply store buying the ad. Poor dude never meant any harm, figured it would be caught by someone and removed from the ad, and then - sudden public attention! They fired him. And the ACLU never entered into the controversy.

I recall Jim was going to report if the boots worked as advertised.
